Matt Callaghan

Matt has over 15 years experience working in applied animal nutrition, particularly across Northern Australia.

Matt is an Agricultural Science graduate from the University of Queensland and is completing a PhD on the effects of nutrition on bull fertility with the University of Adelaide. He has over 15 years experience working in applied animal nutrition, particularly across northern Australia.

Matt currently splits his time between running Ridley Research & Development projects and adding value to large scale beef cattle enterprises through applied nutrition solutions. He also has extensive knowledge of lick block manufacturing methods which he applies at the Ridley Townsville supplements manufacturing facility. Within the R&D portfolio, Matt has built up a network of collaborating partners from universities, state departments of agriculture and CSIRO. Recent projects falling under this R&D portfolio include the effects of monensin in low quality forage diets for beef cattle, phosphorus nutrition of beef cattle, the use of algae and algal byproducts in ruminants, novel nutritional applications to improve sow satiety and welfare,  probiotics in livestock feeds, the epigenetic effects of dietary protein during early pregnancy in beef cattle and the impact of nitrate supplementation on both methane production and productivity of beef cattle in the rangelands.
